top five river/doctor moments

The wedding - I mean, of course the wedding. Of course the wedding.  When I think about the pyramid scenes as a whole, I just really love them. I love Matt’s acting in these scenes especially, for a lot of reasons. He lets you see that despite his scathing words to River about the communication beacon, when he first sees it - he is hella impressed. He berates River for it, but he is still being his usual idiot self, and trying to execute his plan with no help from anyone. Basically - all of his harsh words on top of that pyramid (and in it tbh) are calculated jabs. He is trying to anger her enough that she will touch him and reset time. He thinks this is a good plan, mostly because for a genius he can really be a huge idiot sometimes. And it’s really telling that the moment he changes the plan isn’t after River tells him that she loves him, more than anyone else in the universe. He knows that already. It’s after she confronts him with her own pain at the thought of murdering him. That is when he changes his mind, and realises that he has to trust her, because he can’t bear to cause her that further pain. It’s beautiful. Oh god, his face after she says she’ll suffer - it is beautiful. And he really didn’t have to marry her. He didn’t. This is why I absolutely believe that the Doctor considers that marriage valid. He could have just whispered to her, made Amy and Rory think he was telling her his name, and told her the truth - no wedding needed. But he didn’t. He married her because he wanted to. Because he’s terrible at the words, and that’s how he wants to tell her - you know. Mutual. He feels the same way. The whole thing just gives me chills. I love it all so much.
